How are credit scores calculated?
Credit Scores have been used for years to determine your eligibility for obtaining and handling credit. Credit scores use a very complex system. This system takes into consideration numerous factors and uses a variety of analytical programs. A few examples of these factors include payment history on recurring bills, delinquent accounts, accounts that are in collections, as well as bankruptcies and others. The analytical systems compare your credit history and background with other consumers who are in similar financial situations in order to assess the risk that the debt will be handled appropriately and repaid. The scoring system assigns points to indicate your ability to repay debt in the future. The points are then added up to give you a "credit score" which can be the most important factor in determining whether or not you qualify for credit.

Are items such as bankruptcies and foreclosures impossible to remove?
Every negative listing can be removed from a credit report. Although negative items like bankruptcies and unpaid debts are more difficult to remove from your credit report, this is due to the way that credit bureaus operate rather than the severity of the credit item. For example, tax liens and judgments are severely negative items, yet they are much easier to remove

Does the CCCS help consumers restore credit?
Consumer Credit Counseling Service, also known as CCCS, is a nonprofit counseling service that attempts to assist consumers who cannot manage their debt. CCCS is paid for and run by the credit bureaus and credit grantors. Sometimes they can provide a beneficial service to the consumer, although the credit bureaus and the CCCS have mutual interest you cannot expect the CCCS to fix your credit. Remember, it is important to pay off your debts but this alone will not restore your credit.
